CitizenValley lets you offer your place to event organisers or anyone who just needs some space to do something. And your place can be a home, a kitchen, a garden, the shade of a great oak tree or your shop, bar, library or office. It’s like AirBnB for the rest of the house, without the fees. And the something can be a meeting, a concert, a dinner or a day’s work away from home.
The sharing economy has brought us many platforms for making better use of our homes, but they don’t allow direct contact between user and owner. CitizenValley is simply a social database/catalogue of available spaces. We should have called it Placebook.
Public events in private places
The ancient Romans recognised the importance of public meeting places, to quote Wikipedia: … a forum was a gathering place of great social significance, and often the scene of diverse activities, including political discussions and debates, rendezvous, meetings, et cetera. These days, the public square or piazza can no longer plays this role and no other infrastructure has taken its place. In fact, it’s hard to find meetings that don’t have a largely predefined audience or an organiser with privileged access to the best locations! The Meeting is the Message
